Special situations require special solutions. The fourteenth Open Studios Night is, therefore, moving from K.A.I.R. residential studios to your living rooms. Anna Manankina from Ukraine and Sanja Anđelković from Serbia arrived in Košice just before the borders were closed. After thorough thinking, the artists decided, despite the extraordinary conditions, to stay in Košice and work on new projects, which, among other things, will tell you about on Thursday night at 8 pm via live broadcast on our Facebook. We are looking forward to ‘seeing you’!
Sanja Anđelković (RS) is a visual and textual research artist. Her research is focused within the field of documentary (fiction) practice where she is considering/questioning its position within the system of gender, political, social roles or traumatic moments of personal biography/history. Examining how the idea of Home changing within the historical, geographical, social, but also different natural catastrophes context, she is trying to understand the abbreviations of how different ecologies are interconnected.
Anna Manankina (UA) is an interdisciplinary media artist who in her work covers a wide range of issues: from geopolitical situations and power structures to purely intimate spheres of life which address the topic of violence, gender identity, the position of women in the artistic and social context. At the same time, she works with the manual printing techniques such as linocut, etching, monotype and creates self-published art books. Her works were exhibited in Ukraine and abroad.
The residency is supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council. The residency of Sanja Anđelković is organized in cooperation with Plants AIR, the program of Novi Sad 2021. The residency of Anna Manankina is organized in cooperation with Nazar Voitovich Art Residence.
