Juraj Ďuriš  (SVK)

Residency: August - September 2019

Juraj Ďuriš (* 1992) was born in Nitra, in the place where he became interested in street art in 2007. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts in Brno and afterward completed his master’s studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava in the studio of professor Ivan Csudai in 2017. After finishing his internship in the Nova Galerie, he has continued to live and work in Prague. His works were part of solo and group exhibitions around the Czech Republic and Slovakia, moreover, he created many wall paintings e.g. in France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, the Netherlands, or Denmark.

In his work, he focuses mainly on oil painting on canvas, in exterior spraying on the wall. He often changes the themes of his paintings, moving smoothly from children’s toys to fatal accidents in F1 races. Every image seeks to convey as it is, without unnecessary over-interpretation, as the pure joy of sensory perception and artistic creation. The individual figures and scenes that come into his paintings communicate with each other and document the artist’s individual view of the world.

The residency is organized in cooperation with Plants AIR, the program of Novi Sad 2021. The residency program is supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council. The stay is also supported by Creative Industry Košice.
