Elisabeth Liselotte Kraus – Ahahah. Hahaha,

Šopa Gallery / Košice Artist in Residence, Hlavná 40, Košice 31.5.2021 4 - 7.30 p.m.

We cordially invite you to the exhibition of our residency artist Elisabeth Liselotte Kraus! The exhibition will be open one-day-only, so do not forget to make time and visit us on Monday, May 31, 2021, between 4 – 7.30 p.m. In addition, you can look forward to the workshop Visual Dialogues with the author herself, which will take place from 4 – 6 p.m.

The exhibition „Ahahah. Hahaha,” by German artist Elisabeth Liselotte Kraus at Kair Studios unites visual metaphors that reflect on bizarre interventions in and on our surroundings. The act of balancing power between us humans is a rollercoaster that we sit in every day. Presumably, everybody juggles with repressions or is itself the dominating part in the interaction with our environment. We bump in each other’s natural borders like auto scooters– unwillingly, consciously, barely noticeable, or sometimes very obviously. In her project “Ahahah. Hahaha,” Elisabeth Kraus combines personal and shared thoughts to a room installation to recreate that moment when there is not much left to understand, but only perhaps to laugh.

Workshop Visual dialogues 4 – 6 p.m.

The workshop intends to catch intuitive dialogues visually on paper. We will communicate with our lines that we bring to the surface – continuing, overlapping, or erasing the other lines. In a playful process, infrastructure will be developed that shows diverse dynamics of the participants that interact with each other.

Elisabeth Liselotte Kraus, born in Bamberg in 1992, studied Fine Arts at the Bauhaus University Weimar (2012-2017) and the Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul (2008-2009). She works in the fields of sculpturing, installation and performance, whereas her artistic focus is on painting. She takes various artistic paths, where there is always a high degree of experiment in her work.  Her interest is in linking various mediums, therefore for example drawings are used as composition templates and paintings are transmitted into AR installation. Her own artistic work is strongly connected with the focus on collaboration in order to strengthen a social, supportive structure among artists regionally and worldwide. In joint projects collaborations have already emerged, for example with the Goethe Institute Beirut, NGO “Haven for Artist” in Beirut and sound artist Duo Hauptmeier/Recker in Leipzig. In 2018 she was awarded a work grant from the city of Bamberg.

The two-month residency is organized in cooperation with the European Center for Art Upper Bavaria – Schafhof and the Goethe-Institut Bratislava.

The residency program is also supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council.
