Due to the changing climate, a large part of the islands is threatened by rising sea levels. For this reason, many Islanders flee the islands and their long and arduous journey ends in Lida. As a result, the country is facing great unrest. This is the first time that its inhabitants have to deal with a refugee crisis. Lida’s king quickly decided to accommodate the Islanders in a temporary tent camp in the center of the capital Marsk. The people originally welcomed the Islanders, raised money to support them, and brought food and toys to the camp. However, several months have passed since then and there is still no prospect of the Islanders being able to return to their homes. The deteriorating situation is forcing the king to take a historic step in declaring the first democratic presidential elections. The country is suddenly preparing to take on a new political role that has not yet existed in Lida.

As part of an interactive, theatrical social play, spectators become Lidanian citizens and their choice influences what is happening in the country. How will their selection turn out?

The play, created by the Dutch playwright Sytze Schalk and the Theater Na Peróne in cooperation with KAIR Košice Artist in Residence and Creative Industry Košice, seeks to contribute to the fight against democracy against extremism.

The performance was created within the international project BORDERLINE OFFENSIVE: laughing in the face of fear, which was co-financed by the European Union’s Creative Europe program.
