Application deadline: May 31st, 2019

‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ is seeking artists interested in working on a street art project that will be presented during the first Street Art Festival in Novi Sad (Serbia) organized within the celebration of the European Youth Capital, which Novi Sad won for 2019. The project will be two-fold. First, an installation made from the recyclable material that the volunteers will collect from the Danube River during the volunteer camp happening just before the residence (July 2019). The goal is to raise awareness on the importance of keeping the Danube, as the longest European river, clean. Second is participation with street artists in coloring benches in the park that will host Street Art Festival.

CONTEXT

Novi Sad, in addition to winning the European Capital of Culture title for 2021, also won European Youth Capital title for 2019, joining cities such as Rotterdam, Turin, Thessaloniki, Varna, and Cascais. In the effort to boost the youth programme for 2019 and cooperate with the office for European Youth Capital – Novi Sad 2019, the ECoC team decided to invite several young foreign street artists to spend time in Novi Sad and create together with the local scene. One of these artists will come from Slovakia.

The nature and exact type of the project will be discussed between the selected artist and the team of the ‘Plants AiR’, artist-in-residence programme of the host organizations (‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation).

The residency will take place in August and September of 2019 in Novi Sad.
