Nyx Lucia Günther (DE)

Residency: September - October 2025

Nyx Günther is an up and coming multimedia artist from Munich, Germany. Coming from a background based in IT and technology she specializes in areas such as graphics programming, code art, simulations and interactive and game-art. With this approach she utilizes technology as an artistic medium which presents an interface between personal identities and collective ones on a societal level.

More precisely, techniques like shader programming and virtual reality possess a unique dynamic that she utilizes wherein chaotic structures consisting of millions of data points meet fixed rules and the inherent pre-determinism of computer programs. This blurs the lines between what is perceived as logically explainable and random, complex or natural. Often it is purely up to one’s individual interpretation where traceable patterns exist and where they lose all meaning. Furthermore, even entirely random seeming behaviours regularly display hidden patterns that are not visible to us to begin with.

This dichotomy is where Nyx sees a connection to humans living and acting in a society. Personal identities and goals can be complex enough on their own. Yet within our many interconnected online and other technological networks something that was intimate and personal gets increasingly dissolved into a stream of data driven chaos. Those who try to resist this may feel that identity loses all meaning at an alarming rate and even come to the conclusion that reality itself is on the decline.

In her works Nyx wants to create a sense of awareness for these issues regarding the interplay between mental, bodily and collective identities. She has done so in her debut project social slime which was shown at HALLE6 in Munich, Germany and the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria. Following this line of work her mission is to explore further aspects within this topic and to take even more scientific approaches into account within her art.

Her favourite color is red.
