Nicola Bizzarri (IT/DE)
Nicola Bizzarri lives and works between Munich and Bologna.

In his artistic work, he realizes projects based on pre-existing images and subjects in order to develop critical discourses through their reproduction and modification, interweaving themes such as (cultural) representation, collective and individual identity, narration and history. By borrowing everyday images, words, notions and archive material, his works aim to situate themselves at the intersection between the lyrical and the political, focusing particularly on the tensions and paradoxes between singularity and collectivity in today’s (western) society.

Driven by a fundamentally experimental approach, his research materializes into sculptures, installations, hybrid objects, photographs, actions, as well as collaboration in pedagogical projects. His works are realized using a wide range of materials, where the production processes play an important role in the conceptual frame of the work. These processes are often characterized by multiple steps of material translation, pursued by employing a diverse set of techniques—such as paper-making, bronze and wax casting, analog photography, sewing, and experiments with language.
He studied at the academies of fine arts of Bologna, Berlin, and Munich. Since 2023 he has been a fellow at Collegio Venturoli in Bologna. His work was recently exhibited at Spazio TORRSO, Pesaro (2025), AF Gallery, Bologna (2025), Fuocherello, Volvera (2025), Marsaladue, Bologna (2025), CRAC, Castelnuovo Rangone (2025), La Diode, Clermont-Ferrand (2024), and Galerie der Künstler*innen, Munich (2023). He has participated in residencies in Germany, France, and Italy.
The residency was realised in cooperation with Schafhof – European Art Forum Upper Bavaria, a long-standing partner. The project was also supported by the City of Košice.
