Meet & Greet w/ Eszter Julia Kuzma & Tomáš Roček
Come meet the artists, have a chat, and get a behind-the-scenes look into their creative spaces.
We invite you to a summer gathering with our current residents, Eszter Júlia Kuzma and Tomáš Roček.
During the evening, you’ll have the chance to visit Eszter’s studio, where she will present the project she has been working on during her residency in Košice. Tomáš Roček will introduce both his past and current artistic practice, and as part of the event, he will also present a performance.
📅 We start on July 8 at 6:00 PM in Šopa Gallery.
ESZTER JULIA KUZMA (HU) In the art of Eszter Julia Kuzma,we can observe the interconnection of the ancient symbols and our digital world. Her works are mostly concerned with the triad of nature-transcendence-virtuality, which she explores through the variable use of media. Her themes are often related to mysticism, myths, various religious traditions and rituals, which are translated into interactive installations and objects. In her work, the emotional draining of the artworks in the recipient is given priority over a step-by-step exploration of rationality.
TOMÁŠ ROČEK (CZ) is a multimedia artist working primarily with video and text, but also engages with other media such as sound, painting, performance, and object-based work. One of the key aspects of his artistic practice is recycling and sustainability. He has presented exhibitions such as Uncertain Cartographies at Prague City Gallery, Petrohradská kolektiv, Bludný kámen, among others. His poetry collection It’s Raining in Toronto was published by Malvern in 2021. He is also the founder of the Trsy festival, which explores sustainable connections between art and landscape.
The residency program is supported using public funding by the Slovak Arts Council. The Slovak Arts Council is the main partner of this project. The residency of Eszter Julia Kuzma is organized thanks to the partnership with Budapest Gallery.
