Júlia Csapó (HU)

Residency: November - December 2025

Júlia Csapó in her artistic practice explores the intricate and layered relationship between the human and the non-human world, focusing on the body as the primary site of experience and perception. She is particularly interested in questions such as: How do we relate to the environments we inhabit? What visual and conceptual patterns shape our understanding of the world and our place in it? How can experience be translated into images? Can the image of the human—and the image of the world created by humans—be reimagined?

She primarily works with painting, a medium that allows her to move between abstraction, figuration, and fiction, while bringing together a wide range of visual references. Her imagery draws on geological structures, biological forms, digital interfaces, mythical narratives, and fragments of personal experience. While painting is central to her practice, she also experiments with other media, creating paper and textile objects, drawings, and installations.

The residency program is supported using public funding by the Slovak Arts Council. The Slovak Arts Council is the main partner of this project. The project was also supported by the City of Košice and the Košice Self-Governing Region.
