Iryna Loskot: Wakeful lion
We invite you to start the first days of autumn at Šopa Gallery, where we will say goodbye to our artist-in-residence, Ukrainian artist Iryna Loskot. Iryna will present the result of her residency in the form of a studio video installation.
During armed conflicts, the migration of animals, including birds, is hampered: birds may change their usual migration routes to avoid dangerous areas. They may lose their flock due to fright caused by loud noises, or migrate prematurely due to the destruction of their usual habitat.
The video work explores and fantasizes about the invisible effects of war on human and non-human bodies, emphasizing the similarity of external and internal body reactions and at the same time the inaccessibility of fully understanding each other’s experiences.
IRYNA LOSKOT (UA) in her practice explores the exploitation of the environment and resistance to this exploitation. In her works, Iryna creates a common space of memory for humans and non-humans. Her approach involves evoking empathy for non-humans by revealing their presence in the individual memory of a person.
The residency program is supported using public funding by the Slovak Arts Council. The Slovak Arts Council is the main partner of this project. The project is also supported by Mesto Košice and Creative Industry Košice.
