Mayar Alexan (SY)
Mayar Alexan, is an actor and theater maker living between Damascus and Beirut. To him, the logic of “play” is on the basis of theatrical work. For it allows one to dismantle any fixed ideas or axioms and re-arrange them, creating new narratives. It also gives one the space to deal with complex subjects like fear, violence, or love. To look at them from different perspectives, understand them and reflect on them through art.
He graduated from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus – Acting department, in 2013. His latest projects “A Ticket to Atlantis” (theatre, Beirut ’16) and interactive installation “Be my guest” (Amsterdam ’16) are in collaboration with Lina Issa. He has worked as a professional actor in several productions, like Tachycardia (Beirut ’14), and Above Zero (Beirut ’15), which was also presented at “Dancing on the Edge festival” in The Netherlands and “Cartage Theater Days”, Tunisia. He participated in several workshops with Arab and International directors among which are “New Writings for Theater Readings”, by the British Royal Court theater group, (Beirut ’15), and “Masterclass for young Arab actors” with TAMAM Association, Avignon Theater Festival, (France ’15).
Mayar Alexan will spend two months (October – November 2016) at the residency in Košice. The residency is organized thanks to support of Goethe – Institut in Bratislava in cooperation with Ettijahat-Independent Culture. The project is also supported by Creative Industry Košice.
Mayar Alexan je herec a divadelný tvorca žijúci medzi Damaskom a Bejrútom. Základom pre divadelnú prácu je preňho logika „hry“. Tá človeku umožňuje rozobrať akékoľvek ustálené idey alebo princípy a znova ich usporiadať, vytvárajúc tak nové príbehy. Takto tiež vzniká priestor na vysporiadanie sa s komplexnými myšlienkami ako strach, násilie alebo láska. Pozrieť sa na nich z inej perspektívy, pochopiť ich a reflektovať ich skrz umenie.
V roku 2013 absolvoval Katedru herectva na Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts v Damasku. Jeho najnovšie projekty “A Ticket to Atlantis” (Bejrútt 2016) a interaktívna inštalácia “Be my guest” (Amsterdam 2016) vznikli v spolupráci s umelkyňou Lina Issa. V produkciách Tachycardia (Bejrút 2014) a Above Zero (Bejrút 2015), ktoré boli taktiež prezentované na holandskom festival “Dancing on the Edge” a “Cartahe Theater Days” v Tunisku pracoval ako profesionálny herec. Taktiež participoval na niekoľkých workshopoch s arabskými a medzinárodnými režisérmi, ako napríklad: “ New Writings for Theater Readings” divadelnej skupiny British Royal Court (Bejrútt 2015) a “Master Class for Young Arab Actors“ s TAMAM Association, Avignin Theater Festival, (Francúzsko, 2015).
Mayar Alexan sa v mesiacoch október a november 2016 zúčastní rezidenčného pobytu v Košiciach. Rezidencia je realizovaná vďaka podpore Goetheho inštitútu v Bratislave v spolupráci s organizáciou Ettijahat-Independent Culture. Rezidenčný program je ďalej podporený organizáciou Creative Industry Košice.
