Maya Schweizer (1976 Paris, France) lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Academy of Visual Arts, HGB, Leipzig and completed her diploma at the University of Arts, Berlin. In her work, she focused her research relation between image and its context, the fascination of certain pictures and the meticulous construction behind representation.
During her 3 month residency, Maya Schweizer explored the region from Kosice to the Ukrainian border, visiting a wide range of spaces, from galleries to railway stations. She collected fragments of videos, frames of details and structures, interviews of inhabitants, shooting frescoes and statues, to assemble raw material that form the base for the creation of different narratives. She also realized a experimental video in Bratislava “A Memorial, a Synagogue, a Bridge and a Church”
The residency of Maya Schweizer was realised in cooperation with the Goethe Institut Bratislava.
