Lisa Premke (GER)

Lisa Premke studied first architecture and later Fine Arts at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Already in her studies she started to work with correlating architecture and sound and deepened this interest during her Masters of Sound at the Glasgow School of Arts. Her large-scale architectonic sound installations often link to the site, visually as well as audibly. The subject of intimacy- and the consequent arising unpleasantness or shame- is dominant in the work. Even though there is a poetic and unobtrusive formal language, the audience is pushed to become part of the work by forcing subtle engagements, even if they’re involuntarily. Lisa lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

During the residency Lisa created performance called Aesthetics of Heritage. She worked with connection between natural and trained voice. Opera singers spend years with training of their voices to desired excellence. However, is it possible to train that voice to return back to its natural sound, to natural singing? As a model of natural singer Lisa took dog breed Czechoslovakian wolf dog, the crossbreed between Carpathian wolf and German Shepherd which has characteristic howling. The result of Lisas experiment was site-specific performance in underground garage of Kasárne/Kulturpark where opera singers will tried communicate with wolf dogs by their singing. Lisa also joined forces with gethan&myles to create a multimedia installation called Thick Skin exploring death, detachment and our action/inaction in the face of human suffering.

Lisa took part on the residency in Košice in months July, August and September. Its realisation was possible thanks to generous support of Goethe Institut in Bratislava.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Lisa Premke študovala najprv architektúru a neskôr umenie na Akadémii Rietveld v Amsterdame. Už v tomto období začala pracovať so spojením architektúry a zvuku. Téma intímnosti – a nasledovne vzrastajúci pocit nepríjemnosti a zahanbenia – dominuje jej prácam. I keď diela komunikujú jazykom nevtieravým a viac poetickým, publikum je vedené k tomu, aby sa stalo súčasťou diela pomocou nenásilných zapojení, občas zdanlivo nedobrovoľných. Lisa žije a pracuje v Nemecku, v Berlíne.

Počas svojej rezidencie v Košiciach vytvorila Lisa performance Estetika dedičstva. Lisa pracovala so vzťahom medzi prirodzeným a trénovaným hlasom. Lisa taktiež spojila sily s umeleckou dvojicou gethan&myles a spolu vytvorili multimediálnu inštaláciu s názvom Tučná koža skúmajúcu smrť, odlúčenie a našu činnosť/nečinnosť tvárou v tvár ľudskému utrpeniu.

Lisa sa zúčastnila rezidencie v Košiciach v mesiacoch júl, august a september. Jej realizáciu umožnila štedrá podpora z Goethe Institute in Bratislava.
