Urban Art exhibition – Satelites live

During the summer months of 2011 and in close cooperation with the Goethe Institute Bratislava, K.A.I.R. Košice Artist in Residence hosted Berlin-based artists Anne Peschken and Marek Pisarsky (Urban Art) in Košice. The residency turned into three intensive and inspiring months for Urban Art, K.A.I.R. and the inhabitants of Košice in general. Both artists were intensively involved in the local cultural scene, participated in several cultural events and became quickly familiar with the capital of Eastern Slovakia. Urban Art were exploring the city like scientists. They researched the long multicultural past with its traces leading up to our days while an essential focus was on the architecture of Košice and the exploration of the human condition prevailing in the enormous socialist panelaks (slab concrete tower-blocks) along the hills of the city.

Another point of their interest was to experience the border region between Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Ukraine, a region that shares long historical links, traditions and ethnic permeability that were severed only during the 20th century. Maybe it was the wish to rediscover a kind of common denominator that made Urban Art choose a perspective from outer space for their artistic explorations.
