Tomáš Makara (SK)
Tomáš Makara (*1982), is visual artist based in Košice. He finished his studies at Faculty of Arts of Technical University with the art work called Heal the world (2007). In the work, the text of popular song from Michael Jackson attracts attention of the viewer on the footage with Hitler youth. Shortly after, in the project Painter (2007) he continues on the strong topic of current reflection of the local history of the nazi regime by hanging painting of the author Adolf Hitler to the living rooms of several families.
In his works, Makara aims at difficult and tabooed issue, to which he reacts with terse commentary in different media forms. In his latest video Mouth of Truth (2015) he asks automat with the same name, the tourist attraction, what should he do with his existence as artist. „This is the first work of my prepared project ‚What should I do?‘ based on absurd research of the role and replaceability of the contemporary artist in the society.
Last year, Makara showed up in media thanks to his work Prihláška (2014) in which he confronts the reasonability of regional saloon in Estern Slovakian Galler in Košice. He points out the obsolete form, which has its place in the history, but also had good reasons why it dissapeared from the curatorial conceptions.
In 2006, together with Radovan Čerevka and Peter Vrábeľ founded art collective KASSABOYS. From 2006 was dramaturgist of visual section in IC Culture Train. In 2007 he joined the old-new Make Up collective which organizes exhibitions of contemporary art as Make Up Gallery. In 2011 he founded civic organization Alt30collective under which he organizes Alt30festival 2012 and in 2013 After the end of the world. Since 2014 he runs successful educational format about contemporary art topics called What the hell***is?
Tomáš Matakra will spend two months (October – November 2015) at residency in Wroclaw, Poland. The residency is in cooperation with A-i-R Wro – European Capital of Culture Wroclaw 2016.

Tomáš Makara (*1982), vizuálny umelec, žije a pracuje v Košiciach. Štúdium na Fakulte umení TUKE, ukončil dielom Heal the world (2007). V ňom text známej piesne od Michaela Jacksona podmanivo púta divákovu pozornosť na zábery Hitlerovej mládeže. Hneď na to, v projekte Painter (2007), pokračuje v silnej téme súčasnej reflexie lokálnej histórie nacistického režimu tým, že niekoľkým rodinám zavesí do obývačky obraz, ktorého autorom nie je nik iný ako Adolf Hitler.
Makara vo svojich dielach cieli na zaťaženú a stále tabuizovanú problematiku, na ktorú reaguje úsporným komentárom v rôznych mediálnych formách. Jeho najnovším počinom je video Mouth of truth (2015), v ktorom sa pýta rovnomenného automatu, turistickej atrakcie, čo má urobiť so svojou existenciou ako umelca. „Je to prvá práca z môjho pripravovaného projektu “Čo mám robiť?”, založeného na absurdnom výskume úlohy a nahraditeľnosti súčasného umelca v spoločnosti.”
Minulý rok sa Makara objavil v médiách vďaka dielu Prihláška (2014), v ktorom konfrontuje opodstatnenosť regionálneho salónu v košickej Východoslovenskej galérii. Upozorňuje na prekonaný formát, ktorý v histórii svoje miesto mal, no mal aj pádne dôvody, prečo sa z kurátorských koncepcií vytratil.
V roku 2006 založil umeleckú skupinu KASSABOYS spolu s Radovanom Čerevkom a Petrom Vrábeľom. Od roku 2006 pôsobil ako dramaturg vizuálnej sekcie v IC Culture Train. V roku 2007 sa pridal k staronovému zoskupeniu Make Up collective, ktoré organizuje výstavy súčasného umenia pod hlavičkou Make Up gallery. V roku 2011 založil občianské združenie Alt30collective pod hlavičkou ktorého, organizuje Alt30festival 2012 a After the end of the world v roku 2013. Od roku 2014 rozbehol úspešný edukačný formát, ktorý sa venuje témam súčasného umenia s názvom What the hell***is?
Tomáš Makara sa zúčastní dvojmesačnej rezidencie (október – november 2015) v poľskom meste Wroclaw. Rezidencia je súčasťou spolupráce s A-i-R Wro – European Capital of Culture Wroclaw 2016.
