Tilmann Meyer-Faje (NL)

Tilmann Meyer-Faje (1971) is a Dutch/German artist who works and lives in Amsterdam. There he graduated 2000 at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and 2004 at Sandberg Institute. In his work he focuses on urban planning and the failure of industrial processes. With his ceramic sculptures he is replicating contemporary constructions from our high developed civilization and anticipated their decay.

Therefore he uses the fault in the ceramic production, like using material that is too soft for the weight it has to carry, unclean tools, various clay species mixed together that usually not get along together due to different shrinkage and burning temperature. Even the indifference of the maker leads to his esthetics of failure.

At the European Ceramic Workcenter EKWC in Den Bosch (NL) he staged a whole production chain for a Soviet Microdistrict executed by workers. Further he is doing experiments how he can freeze the moment of collapse in ceramic sculptures.

Tilmann spent three months (July-September) at the residency in Košice. The residency was part of long term cooperation with Motel Spatie in Arnhem, Netherlands.

Tilmann Meyer-Faje (1971) je nemecko-holandský umelec, ktorý pracuje a žije v Amsterdame. Tu aj v roku 2000 absolvoval Akadémiu Gerrita Rietvelda a v roku 2004 na Sandberg Inštitúte. V jeho práci sa sústreďuje na mestské plánovanie a na zlyhávanie industriálnych procesov. Svojimi keramickými sochami kopíruje súčasné konštrukcie našej vysoko rozvinutej spoločnosti v očakávaní jej rozpadu.

Preto črtou jeho keramickej produkcie je závada –napríklad používanie materiálu, ktorý je príliš jemný na váhu, ktorú nesie, znečistených nástrojov, rôznych druhov hlín, ktoré normálne nejdú dokopy kvôli rozdielnej schopnosti sa zmenšovať a teploty horenia.

V Európskom centre keramiky (European Ceramic Workcenter) v Den Bosch (NL) prezentoval súbor prác pre sovietsky okres vytvorených robotníkmi. Naďalej experimentuje so zachytením momentu kolapsu jeho keramických sôch.
