Roswitha Weingrill (AT)

Roswitha Weingrill (1984) is an Austrian artist who lives and works in Vienna and Styria. She studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, field Art and Communication. Currently she is a postgraduate student at the very same University. From 2009 until 2013 she had solo exhibitions in various galleries in the cities of Vienna, Graz and Weiz. Besides that she also took part on numerous group exhibitions in Graz, Berlin, Salzburg, London, Beijing and Toronto. For her work she was also recognized by getting several scholarships and by winning Theodor Körner Award in 2012.

Roswitha Weingrill´s artistic interest aims towards conditions and attitudes of living within social frameworks in urban environments. By using architectural references and procedures of city planning to create models of thoughts and theories about relations between people and the objects they create, long for,  buy, eat, wear, surround themselves and much more.

Coming from a background of drawing and sketching, experimenting with techniques, tools and equipment has always been fundamental to her work. Lately, explorations in crafting, handicraft skills and the materiality of paper have become a crucial element to Roswitha Weingrill´s assemblages of costum made and found matter.

Roswitha took part on the residency in Košice, from April until June. The residency is part of cooperation with Culture Department of the Styrian Government in Graz, Austria.

At the end of her residency, Roswitha presented the result of her work on the exhibition called Within a lonesome group. You can check the photos here.

Roswitha Weingrill (1984) je rakúska umelkyňa, ktorá žije a pracuje vo Viedni a Štajersku. Študovala na Univerzite úžitkového umenia vo Viedni, odbor Umenie a komunikácia. V súčasnosti je doktorandkou na tej istej univerzite. Od roku 2009 až do roku 2013 vystavovala na sólo výstavách v rôznych galériách vo Viedni, Berlíne, Salzburgu, Londýne, Beijingu a Toronte. Za svoju prácu bola tak isto aj ocenená získaním viacerých štipendií a výhrou Ceny Theodora Körnera v roku 2012.

Umelecký záujem Roswithy Weingrill sa pohybuje v medziach podmienok a postojov žitia v sociálnych rámcoch mestského prostredia. Používa referencie a postupy architektúry mestského plánovania na vytvorenie modelov myšlienok a teórií o vzťahoch medzi ľuďmi a objektmi, ktoré vytvárajú, po ktorých túžia, ktoré kupujú, jedia, nosia, ktorými sa obklopujú a ešte omnoho viac.

Vychádzajúc zo základu v kreslení a skicovaní, experimentovanie s technikami, nástrojmi a príslušenstvom bolo vždy kľúčové v jej práci. V poslednej dobe však objavovanie remesiel, ručných prác a materiálnosti papiera sa stali základným elementom zoskupení ňou vytvorených modelov a nájdeného významu.

Roswitha sa zúčastnila na rezidenčnom pobyte v Košiciach, od apríla do júna. Rezidencia je súčasťou spolupráce s Culture Department of the Styrian Government v rakúskom Grazi.

Na konci svojej rezidencie odprezentovala Roswitha výsledky svojej práce na výstave s názvom Within a lonesome group. Pozrite si fotky tu.
