K.A.I.R. – Košice Artist in Residence with the support of Goethe – Institut in Slovakia invites choreographers and dancers from Germany to apply for three month residency in Košice, Slovakia

K.A.I.R. Košice Artist in Residence

In the frame of European Capital of Culture the NGO Košice 2013 is running an international Artist-in-Residence-program for the artists from all over the world and out of all artistic disciplines and expressions. We give our residents the possibility to become a cultural pioneer and work in the inspire environment of Košice`s singular cultural surrounding to realize art projects, collaborate with the agile local art scene and present themselves to the local and national public.

We pursuit three main goals within the residency program:

  1. Support the creative energy of every invited artist and give her/him the chance to work in a new environment and to find (new) artistic ways of expression
  2. Stimulate the art scene in Košice, in the region and in whole Slovakia. Support the dialogue as well as the confrontation of the residency artists with local artists and the wide public.
  3. Create/strengthen a beneficial environment for the development of innovative and international contemporary art projects with international and local participants.

In 2015, we decided to cooperate with local dance collective Heeb She. The main interest of the group is informal education, audience development and raising awareness of the contemporary dance within the group of non-dancers. They organize classes of various dance (or movement) techniques which are open for dancers together with non-dancers. Through the direct experience, they bring contemporary dance and the forms of its presentation to the young people and break down the barriers in its perception. The main reason for this activity is that Heeb She sees the necessity to strengthen the group, which has ambition to engage in the field of contemporary art in the city where this genre still doesn´t have its place. Through the known techniques of contemporary dance, the group has tendency to discover possibilities of movement of individual body to use their own movement techniques. They explore human body, space, ground, skeletal and muscle system and relation between those elements.

With Heeb She we are looking for choreographer or dancer to collaborate during three month residency in Košice. The aim of the residency is to create contemporary dance performance which will be presented at the end of the residency.

What we provide

  • Three month residency in Kosice, Eastern Slovakia (August – October 2015)
  • Free accommodation and studio
  • Honorary 800€ per month
  • Travel costs maximum 400€
  • Production and PR support

What we demand

  • We are searching for professional choreographer or dancer from Germany, who will create performance with local dance collective Heeb She
  • One presentation during the residency and final presentation of the performance at the end
  • Compulsory attendance
  • The completed application no larger than 2 MB must consist of three PDF files, all written in English: Curriculum Vitae, Letter of motivation and objectives and Portfolio
