Matej Al-Ali (CZ)
Matej Al-Ali was born in 1985 in Bardejov, Slovakia. He studied at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen in the atelier of prof. Adéla Matasová and at Art Industrial University in the atelier of prof. Jiří David in Prague. Works of Matej were shown in galleries and on festivals of contemporary art in Czech republic, Hungary, Germany, New York. He lives and works in Prague.
In the centre of his works stand the investigation of the object mechanics, physical work and tactility. The formal outcomes of the author’s work in the video and DIY video-subjects document an action in between the performance and the specific sport achievements. He also studies the relation between audience, person involved and author.
„An artwork provides the audience with the space mainly for an unusual living of themselves. Everyday routine and our environment are forming us to its own picture and we often forget to look for an autonomous feelings and characteristics of ourselves. I am mainly interested in exteriorization of these autonomous mental processes into the form of performance, happening or object.“
Matej spent three months (July, August and September) on residency in Košice, which was made possible even thanks to the cooperation with Plzeň 2015 in the rame of project OPEN AiR – Artist in Residence.

Matej Al-Ali sa narodil v roku 1985 v Bardejove. Študoval na Západočeskej univerzite v Plzni, v ateliéri prof. Adély Matasové a na Umelecko-priemyselnej vysokej škole v ateliéri prof. Jiřího Davida v Praze. Jeho práce boli vystavené v galériách a na festivaloch súčasného umenia v Čechách, Maďarsku, Nemecku a New Yorku. Žije a pracuje v Prahe.
Ťažisko jeho tvorby sa nachádza v skúmaní objektovej mechaniky, fyzickej práce a taktility. Formálne výstupy autorovho diela v médiu videa a DIY video-objektov najčastejšie dokumentujú výkony na pomedzí performance až špecifických športových výkonov. Vo svojich dielach skúma vzťah diváka, aktéra a autora.
„Umelecké dielo poskytuje divákovi priestor hlavne pre nevšedné zažívanie samého seba. Každodenná rutina a naše okolie nás formuje ku svojmu obrazu a často zabúdame hľadať v sebe autonómne pocity a vlastnosti. Zaujíma ma hlavne exteriorizácia týchto autonómnych mentálnych procesov do formy performance, happeningu či objektu.“
Matej strávil na rezidencii v Košiciach mesiace júl, august a september, a to aj vďaka spolupráci s Plzeň 2015 v rámci projektu OPEN AiR – Artist in Residence.
