Hiroe Komai (JPN)

Hiroe Komai sa narodila v japonskom meste Kjóto, žije a pracuje v Londýne. Vždy ju inšpirovala a fascinovala architektúra, ktorej skúmanie prirovnáva k štúdiu folklóru alebo kultúrnej antropológie – architektúra prezrádza príbehy v pozadí a pomáha objasniť miestnu kultúru. Zistila, že kráčanie je najlepší spôsob ako precítiť atmosféru mesta, skúmať rôzne typy architektúry, vrátane obytných budov, tovární, obchodov, surových komunistických budov a tradičnej historickej architektúry. Oceňuje detaily interiérov aj exteriérov: materiál, štruktúru, formu, farbu, tehly, dlaždice a ich vzory, potrubia, poštové schránky, dvere, okná, chodby, radiátory atď. Skúmanie miestnych obchodov pre kutilov v rôznych krajinách je pre ňu taktiež typické – každý takýto obchod má svoj jedinečný charakter a ukazuje ich kultúru. Hiroe Komai vytvára svoje diela na základe priameho pozorovania a výskumu s využitím materiálov nájdených v miestnych obchodoch. Tieto zozbierané  „fragmenty“ potom kopíruje a skladá do nových kompozícií. Komai dúfa, ž vďaka jej rekonštruovaným mestským panorámame miestni ľudia objavia niečo nové o svojom každodennom živote .

Hiroe Komai sa zúčastní dvojmesačného rezidenčného pobytu v Košiciach. Rezidencia vznikla vďaka spolupráci s Youkobo Art Space a bola podporená EU – Japan Fest Japan Committee a Creative Industry Košice.

Hiroe Komai was born in Kyoto Japan and she lives and works in London. She has always been inspired and fascinated by Architecture. Komai has described how observation of architecture is like studying folklore or cultural anthropology – it tells their stories behind and helps illuminate their culture. She finds walking is the best way to feel the atmosphere of the city observe different types of architecture there, include domestic dwellings, factories, shops, raw communist buildings and traditional historic architectures. She appreciates the details of both interior and exterior: material, structure, form, color, brick, tile and its pattern, drain pipe, post box, door, window, corridor, radiator, and so on. Observation of the local DIY shops in different countries is also quintessential for her – each DIY shop has their unique character and shows their culture. Komai creates her works from direct her observation and research utilizing materials found in local DIY shops, and collecting these „fragment elements“ she composes them together in a handmade ‚cut and paste‘ process. Komai hopes that local people will discover something new about their everyday life from her reconstructed cityscapes.

Hiroe Komai will take part in the two-month residency in Košice. The residency was created in collaboration with Youkobo Art Space and with the support of EU – Japan Fest Japan Committee and Creative Industry Košice.
